Confident Group Chairman C.J. Roy was found dead with a gunshot wound at his bungalow in Langford Town on Friday. Police said that a gunshot was heard inside the house, after which staff members rushed to his room and found him covered in blood.
Roy was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he was admitted, but doctors declared him dead.
The shooting occurred at the same time that Income Tax department officials were conducting searches at several locations connected to the Confident Group’s businesses.
Police said, “The Income Tax team had been searching the premises for the past 2-3 days.” Police said that currently, it appears to be a case of self-inflicted gunshot wound. A police officer said that it is not yet clear “whether Confident Group Chairman C.J. Roy shot himself, whether the shooting was a suicide or a murder.” “We are investigating all possibilities. The police are currently determining the cause of death.”

A native of Kochi, he produced several films, including the 2012 action-thriller Casanova, starring superstar Mohanlal. His company was also the main sponsor of the popular reality television franchise’s regional version, Bigg Boss Malayalam.
On Thursday morning, the Income Tax Department raided companies associated with him. During the raids, it was reportedly discovered that he possessed assets far exceeding his known sources of income.
